President Kenyatta sends condolence message to family of 7 officers killed by colleague

A Kenyan police rogue officer went on a shooting spree, killing seven of his colleagues on Thursday, July 14 at Kapenguria Police Station.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family and friends of seven policemen.

Kenyatta said the late officers were patriots who died while defending the country

The president through a statement said the security agents are  investigating the matter to unravel the motive of the brutal killings.

Constable Abdi Hakim Maslah killed his colleagues by snatching a rifle from the officer on duty and later sprayed his colleagues with bullets.

Abdi Hakim is reported to subscribe to the doctrines of extremism groups of Al-Shabaab.

Uhuru Kenyatta termed the late officers as patriots who died in the line of duty defending the country. He at the same time promised any needed support to the affected families during this trying moment.

There are  conflicting reports that the rogue officer had earlier tendered his resignation letter but it was rejected.

“He was under the radar of police over his behavior as he had been unhappy over a number of issues,”  The Standard newspaper reports quoting police sources.

The dead officers are Vitalis Ochido, Wilson Karani, Katana Kitu, Gideon Ochieng, Robert Kinyua, Cornelius Rono and Dennis Momanyi ( Dennis just got married a few weeks ago).

The rogue police officer hailed from the Garissa County.

Other reports indicate that Hakim Maslah  was angry after the arrest of Eumond Omar who had  been arrested and detained at Kapenguria Police Station over his links to terrorism.

Both Omar and Maslah are said to have been  close friends.
