New: SA pupils break Guinness World Record for sandwich making

St Andrews pupils made 29 000 sandwiches in just 60 minutes.

Pupils at St Andrews school in Bloemfontein just broke the Guinness World Record.
They made 29 000 sandwiches in just 60 minutes. The effort involved over 3000 loaves of bread, 1500 kilograms of peanut butter, 100 kilograms of jam.
School headmaster, Chris Thomas, says the attempt is an effort in teaching pupils to make a contribution to the world.
“We get the boys together and the school community to make sandwiches which we could distribute to needy people in Bloemfontein. Part of the schools philosophy is to try and teach our boys that there’s a world out there that is in need and how they can contribute to fulfilling that need.”
More than 750 pupils participated. It is an exciting feat for the youngsters. One pupil says, “I feel very honoured and glad that my school thought of an initiative like this. I am very proud of the school.”
Another pupil shares the sentiment ,“It is the first time and it feels really good to make sandwiches to help the people who are in need.”
The sandwiches will be distributed to schools and charities. The contributions are in honour of former President Nelson Mandela.
